Sustainability Manager – innovative FTSE 250 professional services company

My client, an innovative FTSE 250 professional services company, is looking for a Sustainability Manager to join its central ESG team. This is a fascinating opportunity for someone keen to drive positive change by contributing to a company’s mission of embedding sustainability and social value at the core of its operations.

This pivotal role involves developing and implementing the company’s social value framework, ensuring its performance aligns with its Environmental, Social, and Governance targets. The successful candidate will manage and support the disclosure of its ESG credentials for its annual and ESG reports, and oversee its carbon footprint reporting.

The role also involves embedding sustainability and social value across the business, leading external rating submissions, and building relationships with key stakeholders. Additionally, the manager will support bid submissions, collaborate on award submissions, create engaging communications, support and manage apprentices, and assist the Group Director of Sustainability and Social Value with strategic tasks.

The team is open minded about where this hire might come from. A logical route is someone with previous experience in a sustainability / social value role. Someone with a strong understanding of ESG reporting and carbon footprint management. And a good working knowledge of the sustainability and key market influences (e.g. government legislation, corporate social responsibility, etc) within the UK and overseas as appropriate.

The alternative is someone with a passion for ESG and sustainability, but whose experience to date has been more focused on writing. Perhaps someone from more of a comms / copywriting background, who would be adept at creating and project managing meaty reports.

Either way, the team is looking for someone with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. As well as excellent communication and presentation skills, with an ability to write high level reports, proposal and tender documents.

As a guide to the level this would fall into the earlier stages of a manager position. Perhaps someone transitioning into their first manager role. You will have management responsibility for an apprentice below. Base salary around £35-42k.
